For the LOVE of London
5 things that EVERY London visitor should do!
Okay!!!! London is my favorite place in the whole entire world!!! Why? Well, London is just EVERYTHING. It has the best sights, sounds, food, and location. What I love about London is not just London proper, but everything around London. I have a special place in my heart for Hammersmith, Cromer, and cute little coastal towns. Why these places? Family!!! I have family that lives in England, and my heart feels more complete when I am there visiting them.
I have had 2 friends in the last week beginning to plan trips to my favorite place. They have (OF COURSE) asked for advice, and I feel it my duty to share with them AND YOU the top 5 things that no person should miss. I'm sticking with 5 because it's still general enough. Depending on WHY you are going to London I do have more ideas as well. But, for now I'll stick with 5:
- Hop On-Hop Off Double Decker Bus: Now, I don't have a preferred company(yet). Just do some research to find your best bet. I recommend the HOHO because everything worth seeing is all over the city. Unlike my imagination(that thinks everything is within a 1 mile radius) London is a big city, and all of the "must sees" are significantly far from one another. To see the best the city has to offer get AT LEAST a 2 day pass. It's the best form of transportation, and you learn things as you are riding around. The guides are usually the best part too. Everything worth seeing can be met by using the HOHO. Tower Bridge...check! Buckingham Palace....check. Big Ben....check. National Museum...check. I'm telling you, it's just the way to see the city.
3. Thames River Cruise: Again, this is a great way to see the city. It's an extra special way to get that fabulous panoramic view of the London skyline. It's just beautiful.
4. Tower of London: Everything that I THINK you want to see in London can be seen on a tour of the Tower of London. You will get the history, the beef eaters, the crows, the British accents, AND your glimpse of royalty. Seeing the Crown Jewels is a treat not to be missed. Just go. Take the tour. Enjoy the tour, and imagine yourself living the royal life.
5. Get out of Town: Everything you want to see in London is not just in London proper. So, you should take a tour outside the city. My favorite one is a day trip to Windsor(to see if the Queen is in), Stonehenge(to examine the work of aliens), and Bath. Bath is the quintessential old world trip to England. I've also loved Stratford-Upon-Avon, the Cotswolds, and Surrey(for Thorpe Park). The only thing you need to know is to truly appreciate London you need to get out of the city proper.
Yes, this just a list for starters! But from here you can start planning YOUR trip. London WILL be a place you want to go back to, and then you can create your own list from there. For me, after 4 visits, my next trip includes Warner Brothers, a Harry Potter B & B, Highclere Castle, Cadbury World, and my family. It's all about going once, finding what you love, and immediately planning your next trip. London is loved. It's a place to go mutiple times. A place to make YOURS! So....what do you have to see when you visit? Let my friends know what you'd suggest.
