Dollywood Dreams
Food
When we originally planned this adventure I was most excited about the food, but the rides totally won out in the end. To be honest, the food was great, but the rides were far better than I imagined. I had done some research, and let me tell you what we had, AND LOVED.
The pulled pork nacho fries from the Hickory House BBQ can't be missed. Don't be deterred by the long line....it's worth it. This is not your typical amusement park food. Deliciously tender pork sits on a bed of sidewinder fries, smothered in cheese, topped with green onions, and a side of sour cream. When I had researched this place I thought I would get the sandwich, but after seeing someone else with the fries I couldn't resist them. They met my high expectations and I would order them again.
Now, there are several places to get food at Dollywood, especially during the food and flower festival that was happening while we were there. But.... you can not miss the CINNAMON BREAD. Dollywood does an amazing job promoting their cinnamon bread with shirts, bags, and other items. So, how is it? Could it be that great to warrant all the STUFF? Well, it really is THAT amazing. Warm, sweet, cinnamon-y, and a smell that can drive you crazy until you get yourself a loaf. In fact, we knew we wanted the cinnamon bread before we arrived, but when we went to the spot on the map we discover it wasn't open. It was so hard to believe because the whole area smelt so good. We didn't give up however. We eventually found it. We apparently needed to go down a level in the building and around a corner. It's kind of tucked away, but if you follow the smells....you will get there. It is so tasty.
Now, maybe you're wondering....how much Dolly is in Dollywood? There are several different displays around the park, but nothing too outstanding. If you are truly a Dolly fan you may be interested in seeing her childhood home, or her grandfathers church, but if you want to learn and understand Dolly, I'd stick with other research methods. This is an amusement park, and not a Dolly shrine. I loved that it wasn't overly Dolly, but I also loved seeing her touch in many things. Overall, this place did not disappoint, in fact I want to bring my husband and Buddy to ride some of these crazy coasters. It was loads of fun and I fully recommend Dollywood to everyone.
