Harry Potter Experience in Salt Lake City, Ut
We are Potterheads.....Did we enjoy this traveling Exhibition? And, what you should know.
Salt Lake City, Utah....more specifically Sandy, Utah is the newest home of the traveling Harry Potter Exhibition. Being HUGE Harry Potter fans, I knew we would be there. To be honest, a few years ago I saw that they were in Pennsylvania, and I was attempting to create a family vacation all under the guise of "learning", but it was really to check out this exhibit. But, I waited long enough and it is now in our home state, and really only about 10 minutes away.
So, during it's opening weekend....we had to check it out. And, I'm here to (NOT SPOIL TOO MUCH), and let you know what we thought.
Location:
The Shops at South Towne. But, as a local know that this doesn't mean "at the mall". It's actually over by Target, and next to Old Navy(It's where Buy Buy Baby use to be). I never knew the whole area was considered "The Shops", but there you go.
It's important to note that there are NO BATHROOMS in the exhbit. There are porta potties outside, and available should you need the restroom.
Hours of Operation:
Currently the exhibition will be here from now until September 1, 2025 from 9:00am to 8:00pm, with last ticketed entry at 7:00.
It took our party of 6 about 90 minutes. But that's with kids who wanted to do more of the interactive elements and not read. The exhibit offer an audio tour, that I'm sure will add more to your time, but also enhance the experience.
What We Loved:
We loved several things about this adventure. At the entrance, every guest is given a Golden Snitch wristband to use and keep throught the experience. You set up your account and use the magic throughout the adventure. It's pretty magical. We loved that there was staff all along the way if you were confused or needed help in any way. They are also Potter fans, so they love testing your trivia. We loved the movie props. All througout the experience, items are placed for guest to check out and enjoy. We loved the interactive moments. From the start you are a part of the exhibit. Lots of fun things touch, play, and experience. You go at your own pace, and can zip through the whole thing, or take time AND LOTS OF PICTURES. I loved that there is an audio tour if you want more. There is also a gift shop(of course there is) at the end to meet all your shopping needs. The whole thing really is a magical experience.
What We Would Do Differently:
Knowing what we know now, I'd suggest a few things to you. One, use the restroom before you arrive. Two, If you love HP, get the audio guide. Third, the website offers several add ons to your ticket. I don't think VIP is worth it. You will also be given the opportunity to add a mystery gift bag...I got it....Not worth it. Just buy the things you want, if you want them. The mystery bag had 5 cheap items, and although I recuperated the money I spent, it wasn't worth it. If you really want a butterbeer you can get one. I'd just say buy it before hand, save yourself the time of 2 lines.
