Winter Weekend Away
Weekending in Wasatch & Summit County
January and February seem to last forever....and with Seasonal Depression, it can be even longer. We decided to beat the blues and spend the weekend staycationing in Park City, Heber, Midway area. These 3 cities belong to Wasatch and Summit County of Utah. It's a winter wonderland and we were excited to have some fun.
We live a little less than an hour away, which makes it the perfect place to go and seem "away", but also close enough that we could be home for an extended family dinner. Park City is well known by locals and tourists alike because of the great ski resorts, Olympics, and idealic location in the mountains. We enjoy Park City, but even better, and more quaint is Midway and Heber. These little cities less than 30 minutes from Park City are quiet, relaxing, and full of cute little shops, and activites. Some actvities in the summer include boating, train rides on the Heber Valley Railroad, golfing, and hiking. We especially like taking time to visit the Heber Valley Artisan Cheese barn. They hold fun activities all year round, and we love visiting.
For this trip we were excited to try a few new adventures, and I'm excited to share them with you.
First, we started with lunch at Cafe Galleria. This wood fire restaurant is a cute little place that keeps an extensive waiting list. People dine here to enjoy eating in a snowglobe. Yes, a snowglobe! It's officially called an AlpenGlobe. These little huts can be described as private dining shelters with panoramic views. They are a fun way to experience the outside views while staying warm. They are popping up all around Park City, and the surrounding areas, but these ones at Cafe Galleria may have been some of the first. We enjoyed our experience in our globe. We were able to play our own music from my phone as loud as we wanted, while Buddy danced around. It was enjoyable, and I can see it being a lot of fun for a larger group(up to 8) at night as well. We found it enjoyable, but would note that due to it's secluded nature it seemed that our server wasn't as attentive as dining in a full dining room.
After lunch we relaxed at our hotel, and then headed to Woodward Park. This was our first time here. It replaced Gorgoza Park that was there for years. They've done great things and turned it into a pretty cool year round destination. It was easy purchasing our tickets online, and when we arrived it was easy to get our passes and head right up the mountain. Each ticket that prints has a chip in it that once you get your tube, you scan during your time, and you can head right through. There are3 small tracks after riding one "magic carpert", then you can catch another "magic carpet" up to 4 more lanes at the top of the hill. We rode the small hill a few times, but loved the longer, faster ride more. It's so much fun. We rode down individually, in partners, and our favorite...all 3 of us. We saw several really large groupls going down together. I'm not sure the limit, but it was really cool seeing so many people heading down the hill. Our tickets allowed us to play 2 hours, and that really was the perfect amount of time.
After playing hard for 2 hours, we were ready for dinner. We ate at the local favorite...Dairy Keen. It's more lovingly refered to as the Train Restaurant at our house. It's a fun little local burger joint that has trains all over. Trains to see, trains to ride, and even a train to eat out of outside. It's our Buddy's favorite, and we loved our visit.
At the end of the night we headed to our hotel where we relaxed and went swimming. A swimming pool is THE BEST part of a kids vacation, and we enjoyed being able to swim and hot tub in winter.
Overall, this was a really fun way to spend the weekend. I love the family time, and having fun adventures is a bonus. Please check out any of these places and let me know what you think.
