#1 Disneyland Character Dining
Mickey’s Tales of Adventure Breakfast Buffet
Disney’s Grand Californian is the luxury hotel of the Disneyland Resort. Everything about it is over the top beautiful and GRAND. The one place that WAS lacking was the character dining at Storyteller Café. You could meet woodland characters like Koda from Brother Bear, and Meeko from Pocahontas. It wasn’t a destination like Goofy’s Kitchen where you can meet Goofy, and Minnie. It even paled in comparison to Surf’s Up at Paradise Pier where you meet Mickey himself! Disney knew this, and knew they needed to do something about it….so enter Mickey’s Tales of Adventure now available at the Grand Californian. When I heard of the change, that took place in the summer of 2018 I knew I needed to add it to my MUST try locations. I’ve now tried all 4 locations, as well as the long gone Ariel’s Grotto and I’m here to tell you that this locations BY FAR has the best food, and experience of all 4 locations. Let me tell you why.
First, the FOOD……..
You are getting Grand Californian quality food. This is NOT a kid only buffet. I appreciated Surf’s Up’s attention to chicken nuggets and chocolate pudding at breakfast for my kid but NO! Storytellers offered a selection of fruits, cheeses, tasty pastries, quality meats, and a gourmet omelet station. It was simple yet filled with a great selection. My favorite touch was the corn flake milk. If you are familiar with the craze created by Milkin New York, this is Disney’s touch on that popular item. My niece was a fan.
Second, the SERVICE…..
I believe that the service received here was superior to any of the other character breakfasts. Check in is the same as the other locations, however after check in you do NOT wait in line for a character (I liked this). I will get more into that next. Once we were seated our drink orders were taken and we were invited to serve ourselves. Again, because of the location the servers were on top of our beverages, clearing plates, and even giving us clean silverware. I did not experience this at any other location. I also appreciated the use of the short stem glasses as opposed to typical restaurant cups.
Finally, the CHARACTERS….
The reason I come to a character breakfast is to multitask! I want to sit down, eat a nice meal, and NOT wait in a line to see some characters. I especially like if it’s hot outside and I’m in an air-conditioned building. I’ve expressed many times that when I come to Disney it’s not all about the characters, but I DO LOVE seeing the characters and if the lines aren’t crazy, or if its part of something else, I LOVE getting close with these magical beings. I also like making my family(my sister in law) happy by getting her as many characters together and letting her do her thing. She is adorable!!! The great thing about Tales of Adventure is you see Mickey, Minnie, and Pluto! That’s 3 of the Fab 5. Plus Chip and Dale. I’m just throwing this out there…I think these 2 may be the cheapest to make because these guys are EVERYWHERE. Anyway……….to get Mickey and Minnie on a regular basis is amazing. I love that I don’t have to wait in a line for any of them either. They all come to your table. You get real one on one time with them. At Surf’s Up Mickey is at the entrance and you better get him when you walk in or you will never get your picture with him. You also don’t have to worry about someone coming to your table trying to sell you a portfolio of 1 photo. You have TIME with the big guy, and his lady, and his dog (and Chip and Dale).
Really, I’m just super impressed with the changes made to Storytellers. I think it was the best move on Disney’s part. I’m not just saying that because the pixie dust from my visit is still shining. I’ve read so many reviews in the past of all the locations and they all say the same thing, “You are paying for the characters and not the food.”. In the case of Mickey’s Tales of Adventure at the Storytellers Café I think the food and the experience are together worth the price. It really was worth it. So worth it that I recommended it to my family who just went yesterday. I will continue to make it one of my top food recommendations and my NUMBER ONE character dining at the Disneyland Resort.
