Loving Your Lucky Traveler
Perfect Gifts for a Traveler
When I decided my husband was “THE ONE” I wanted to spend forever with, there were a few things that we needed to take care of…sure we were going to have to find a house, combine bank accounts, get married, and all that other stuff. But, the most important THING was that HE was going to NEED a current passport! I was not about to hitch my cart to someone who wasn’t prepared to leave the country at a moment notice! I mean really?
So, for his birthday he received a fully completed passport application. He also received a copy of his driver’s license, birth certificate, and a list of local passport offices. He also received a gift card to the local Walgreens for the exact amount of 2 passport photos. ( As a side note, the cheapest place was, and still is Costco. I love Costco for a myriad of reasons as a traveler .) It was all prettily wrapped with care in hopes that he would sense the gravity of its importance. I am happy to report, he understood. Since then I have been buying thoughtful gifts like this to ensure my husband is, and always will be a prepared traveler.
Which got me thinking…. Valentines is a great time to share gifts of love with your favorite travel partner(s). These can be for anyone you like to travel with. But, in honor of Valentines....Here are my LUCKY 7 suggestions:
A STAY-cation
This is the obvious answer for a traveler. Go somewhere! You will make their wanderlust heart super happy. But this is Valentines...There is no need to go anywhere fancy. Somewhere local, just to get away for a minute to remind that someone they are your favorite travel buddy. I love looking for deals through Travelzoo, and Groupon. Something last minute is always a good deal especially in your local “hotspot”. Here in Utah it’s Park City, and St. George. Some would even consider Las Vegas, or Disneyland “local” getaways. Whatever it is to you…. just remember this is Valentines…. not an Anniversary or Birthday. No need to go crazy. Unless of course that’s your thing…then HEY…GO FOR IT!
Spa Time
You don’t need to be staying at a 5-star hotel to be pampered like you are. Head to the fancy spa in town and do ALL THE THINGS. Create a vacation atmosphere for that special someone.
A Travel Map
My husband got this map for me a few years ago for Christmas, but it would make a great Valentines gift. We have hung it in our front room, and people love checking it out when they come to our home. Each time we visit a new place we put a red pin in. We also put green pins in places we want to go. We also have these orange pins that are places we’ve been to separate of each other, and hope to replace them with red pins one day.
1,000 Places to See Before You Die
This book is fun for a traveler to thumb through. I love putting little stickers next to the places I’ve been. It’s also a great place to go when looking for interesting adventure spots.
Packing Cubes
If you are a traveler or have any amount of OCD these things are for you. They have kept me so organized when preparing for a trip. I also think I’m able to pack more because I can pack things down and compact before they ever get to my suitcase…. which leaves more room for souvenirs on the return trip.
Passport Holder
Now, lets say you got someone special a passport for Valentines! Genius gift, I know. Now they need a place to store it to keep it safe. There are a ton of options out there. I found this cutie on Amazon. My husband actually got us coordinating ones that say “MR” & “MRS” on leather for our 3rd anniversary. I love that I know exactly what I’m looking for when I need them. I also love that they smell. It lets me know that I’m close to finding them.
Packing Checklist
I got a sticky pad similar to this one for my neighbor a few years ago. I thought it was a genius traveler gift. It lists out basics and anything a “normal” person would need on vacation, but also gives you room to add more for your specific trip.
I know I could list more, but 7 seemed liked the perfect number for a Valentines list. Here’s to hoping this is your LUCKY VALENTINES. Now go share some LOVE! Let me know if you have suggestions for your traveler.
