YELP makes me a Foodie!
I'm a good FOOD Finder
Do you ever get STUCK deciding where to go out to dinner? Do ever want something DIFFERENT? Something that isn't like all the chain restaurants, or like your "usual" place? Or, have you ever been pressed with the decision to decide where to eat while on vacation and either choosing somewhere close and familiar, or even going with whatever the concierge suggests(who may or many not have the same taste in food as you)?
Well, STOP! There are so many ways of finding good food nowadays. You can ask your friends on social media. You can read google reviews. The list is endless. But, I do have to say that THE BEST place to go to when looking for REAL good local food is YELP. All you need to do is download the app. It's super simple to use and truly gives you the BEST feel for what a place will be like. Let me take you through some of my favorite features of the YELP app.
Right from the get go, you can select a location based on the TYPE of food. If you really want THE BEST PIZZA in New York City you only need to type in "pizza" and "New York City" into your search. I'm serious, I just did it! With over 5,000 reviews I see that Lombardi's has the best. How do I know? Well, each business has a star rating on a scale of 1-5. Lombardi's has 4 stars. Now, Juliana's Pizza is #2 but has 4.5 stars BUT they only have 1,600 reviews. They may have better rating but the #1 has far more reviews and still maintains a high score. If given the opportunity....I'd try Lombardi's on my next trip. But...to be fair I'd also probably try Julian's and decide for myself. My husband Paul thinks that given the choice, he'd choose Juliana's because a 4.5 with over 1,000 reviews is REALLY awesome. It's really up to you.
Once you choose a location to learn more about, click on it. Then up comes some super helpful information.....Price point(denoted by $ signs), hours of operation, directions, phone number, and then an INFORMATION section. I especially like this part when I'm bringing our little man with us. We love exploring new food places with our kid, and I don't want to bring a kid in if it's "not their scene". I do like to push the envelope on this a little though... read about it her
e. They also have a "insight & highlights" section. This section really gives you highs and the lows of a place. Next are a bunch of reviews with appealing(and some not so much) photos and some detailed experiences. You can also "search" if you are looking for something specific at the location within the review section. The last section is "tips" which is very handy when ordering. If the place only takes cash, this is usually the place someone will tell you.
Another great feature of YELP are all of the customer photos. You can know exactly what you're ordering before you ever arrive based on photos from others. YELP even organizes their photos. You can see food shots, inside the establishment, outside, and even the menu in many cases. I love using the photos to get an idea of what goodness I'll be in for.
I truly just find YELP to be the MOST complete place to go when looking for a great place to eat. They also have some reviews on other types of locations, but food is the focus here. I love writing reviews and being part of the culture that IS YELP. It makes me feel like a foodie. Check it out and let me know what you think too.
