PIXAR IN CHICAGO!!!
THE "STUFF" THAT MAKES PIXAR SO MAGICAL
My husband and I just got back from a quick trip to Chicago. We were there for his birthday to see Hamilton. But....when I saw an instafriend
's story I knew I had to make an addition to our Chicago trip. Have you guys heard of this exhibit? It's called The Science Behind Pixar.
It's currently on display at the Chicago Museum of Science and Industry. It's amazing. Let me tell you about it....
Pixar opens up about HOW they create their movies. They give you the ins and outs of animation. Everything from character creation, set creation, all the way to rendering each second of film into a seamless scene. It was extremely fascinating.
We learned that characters are created using 2 dimensional drawings that are turned into 3 dimensional sculptures. Then...those sculptures are scanned into a computer that gives every little section on the sculpture a point. Those points then become the riggs, or the pull points kind of like a marionette. There are even riggs on the inside of the sculpture. It takes thousands of points just to make a character move. My husband had a good time making Jessie's eyes move(you can see it in the picture above).
After touring this exhibit it made me appreciate Pixar even more for what they do. It also helped me better understand WHY it takes so long for Pixar to create new movies. To render one frame can take up to 33 hours. That's 33 hours to get the character, setting, shading, lighting, sound, effects, and everything to all align just for one second. It's truly amazing.
After seeing this exhibit I have a greater desire to get to Pixar Studios in Emeryville, CA. If there is anyone who has any connection, or any way for me to get a tour I'd be eternally grateful. I would love to meet some of the people who make this magic happen and thank them for truly making something so amazing.
