Fall at Cross E Ranch
Fall Festival at Cross E Ranch, SLC
For the last few years, we have loved visiting pumpkin patches, and the last 2 years we’ve fallen in love with Cross E Ranch in North Salt Lake. It is an amazing sight to behold a giant, sprawling working cattle ranch IN Salt Lake City. You can see the capitol building from this place!
We were wondering as summer came to an end if Cross E would open for their fall festival given the current Covid-19 climate. So, when I saw that they planned on opening I was so excited to get our tickets and head there. We love so many things about this place and were so excited to visit. We love the food, the activities, the entertainment, and of course the family time.
As you enter the ranch you will see the Donut Shop. I recommend stopping here first. The line does get longer as the night progresses (but I ALSO suggest stopping here before you leave). They make fresh apple cider donuts all festival long. They’ve built some viewing steps at the window to watch the entire process from mixing bowls full of batter, to the dough pourer, right into the fryer, flipping, and the final coating step of either glaze, or cinnamon sugar. It is mesmerizing, and completely satisfying to see YOUR donut go through the whole process. I LOVE the cinnamon sugar best, but the glazed was not bad AT ALL. When we came back for more at the end of the night we had a nice mix of both kinds. Yes,…when we came back. I’m telling you, you will want to take some of these home.
Aside from the donuts that should not be missed they have fresh made kettle corn in the barn, and a little sweet shack where they make fresh caramel apples. For those wanting something more savory, they also have a grill barn where you can get fresh beef burgers, fries, chicken, and other fried foods.
Now, food is not the only thing Cross E offers. The activities can’t be beat. My son loves the water pump most of all. Even more than the giant jumper, hay pyramid, hay maze, pumpkin patch, corn maze, tractor ride, hay ride, and giant slides. The giant slide was my favorite activity. It’s great to go down by yourself, but even better to ride down WITH your kids. My second favorite was the hay ride (minus the hay bails) because you get to ride out to the beautiful pasture where the cattle are raised. It’s a pretty spectacular view.
Let us not forget the PIG RACES!!! This was a treat to behold. Several times during the day (check the brochure that you receive at check in) you can watch 4 heats of pigs run around the track. Don’t miss the end when the pigs are rewarded with donuts! This was a highlight of the evening.
My favorite part is all the family time that Cross E offers. Almost all activities, and treats can be enjoyed by everyone in the family. It’s also not too busy. You must have a reservation for this event, and they ask that you not stay more than 3 hours, but I’m not sure how they track this. I also don’t think you need more than 3 hours. It’s the perfect size, and full of so many activities for a fun family fall evening.
